The Meeting House

The Meeting House is the Chaplaincy’s new base on the Treforest Campus, on the north side of the campus just uphill from the Ferndale Building and the Brook Street gate.

The Meeting House combines a strong strand of local Welsh spiritual tradition with a global vision. Its motto, Embracing diversity, celebrating faith, encapsulates its purpose as a place where people can come as they are, confident of a welcome. At the Meeting House we offer the Welsh tradition of warmth, hospitality and welcome to the whole University community. It is a place where people of all nationalities, cultures, faiths and ways of life can simply meet one another. There will be opportunities for people to meet, to talk, perhaps to argue or to pray together, to learn respect for one another, and to grow.

The Meeting House is not a neutral place in which people have to leave their beliefs andindividuality at the door, but a mutual place in which people can come as themselves to encounter others as themselves. Meeting people of a totally different culture or set of beliefs can be challenging and uncomfortable, but it can also be exciting and fun. It is an important part of what education is about. It need not always be serious and intense. The Meeting House is a place where you can relax, forget the pressures of University life for a little while, and just enjoy being with other people, or if you prefer, sitting quietly by yourself.
