The Chaplains

Vaughan Rees – University Chaplain, Chaplaincy Services Manager

Rev Vaughan Rees is the University Chaplain and Chaplaincy Services Manager. He is released by the Covenanting Churches in Wales (Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian and United Reformed Churches) and is appointed in partnership between these churches and the University for this work. He has worked in local pastorates in England and Wales and in regional church leadership. He is committed to ecumenical work and dialogue and understanding between faiths.

Ray Vincent – Associate Chaplain (part-time)

Rev Ray Vincent is a Baptist minister. After serving as a Student Chaplain in London and work with the Student Christian Movement, he had pastorates in South Wales and in a United Church in East London. He has now retired and works at the Chaplaincy as a volunteer and on a sessional basis.

Rev Susan Stevenson – Associate Chaplain (part-time)

Rev Susan Stevenson is a Baptist minister. Having served diverse multicultural churches in South London for 22 years, she is now exploring ministry in South Wales. She works mainly on Tuesdays at the Glyntaff Campus as an Associate Chaplain.

Gareth Leyshon – Associate Chaplain (Roman Catholic – part time)

Revd Gareth Leyshon is a Roman Catholic priest, ordained in Treforest in May 2007. A native of Llanelli, he pursued a PhD in Astrophysics at Cardiff before training for the ministry. He is generally available at The Meeting House on Tuesday mornings, and at the Glyntaff Chaplaincy Office between 2 pm and 5.30pm on Thursdays. Gareth’s particular interests include the perceived conflicts between science and religion, and the compatibility (or otherwise) of New Age beliefs with Christianity.

Jan Harris – Volunteer Chaplaincy administrative assistant

Jan is an Elder at the local United Reformed Church. Until retirement she worked as a clerical officer with the NHS. She currently volunteers at the Chaplaincy one day a week and on key occasions.

Julie Wenner – Officer Administrator (part-time)

Julie Wenner, the Chaplaincy’s Officer Administrator, is working at the Meeting House every weekday afternoon except Wednesday, and also on Thursday mornings.




Faith advisers to the Chaplain

Rabbi Moshe Baron – Jewish Advisor

Raised in Montreal, Canada, Rabbi Baron obtained a degree in Biology at Yeshiva University in New York before returning to Montreal to study for his semicha (rabbinical ordination) from Yeshivat Noam HaTorah. He recently moved to England where he was appointed Chaplain for Bristol & Western Region by University Jewish Chaplaincy. Rabbi Baron has continuously been involved in many communal organizations and currently runs many activities and gives several Torah and Hebrew classes to students in Bristol and surrounding areas.
